The City Council's clean and green initiative is set to come to Rose Hill this month.

The campaign will see Oxford Direct Services (ODS) staff concentrating their cleaning efforts in the Ashurst Way area for two weeks between 25 March and 7 April. The theme for this campaign, the first clean and green initiative of 2019, is "a lasting impact" and the dates will tie in with the national Keep Britain Tidy Great British Spring Clean campaign.

Cllr Nigel Chapman, Board Member for Customer Focused Services said: "The teams will be out street cleaning, clearing gullies and removing graffiti. They'll check on litter hot spots, bring in mechanical street sweepers, and focus on dealing with dog fouling. They'll also be knocking on doors to bring the Council's clean and green message to residents, answer their questions about recycling and listen to their concerns about keeping the area clean.

"But it's not just about the Council. Residents and schools will be joining in. Youth Ambition, Rose Hill Junior Youth Club and GoodGym Oxford will be conducting litter picks during the two-week initiative." 

As part of the national Keep Britain Tidy Great British Spring Clean campaign there will be a community litter pick in the area on 25 March from 10.30am. To register for this visit Keep Britain Tidy's event page. 

Rose Hill Primary School will be joining in the campaign with a student competition to design new art  to adorn the cage trucks that are used to gather the litter. The winning piece of art will be unveiled at the campaign launch on 25 March, starting at 10.30am, at Rose Hill Community Centre.  

Enthusiastic youngsters from the Rose Hill Junior Youth Club will be out and about taking part in a litter pick on 27 March. On 6 April there will be a Repair Café, between 10am and 12.30pm at Rose Hill Community Centre. It's an opportunity to bring broken items along to see if they can be fixed. 

As with previous clean and green campaigns, residents will be invited to sign up to the Clean Green Pledge. They'll promise to clear up after their dogs, keep hold of litter, cigarettes and gum until they find a bin, keep gardens tidy, help keep footpaths clear, donate items to charity rather than binning them and report fly tipping.

The campaign will get underway with a launch event on 25 March at Rose Hill Community Centre, starting at 10.30am. People are invited to come along  to speak to the team about recycling, waste, flytipping and graffiti. The first 70 arriving at the event will get a free hot drink and homemade cookie in a clean green mug from Rose Hill Cafe, courtesy of ODS. The event will also host a recycling stall offering recycled items and information.
